This aside, there’s little to differentiate the core elements of Arturia’s synth from other recreations. It also adds a few extra features, like a simple oscillator sync switch and extra front panel modulation routings. Comparatively, Arturia’s MS-20 feels like it pushes into full-bodied overdriven territory a little more easily than Korg’s software version or the modern hardware recreations. Arturia leans hard into this side of the MS-20’s character in branding, offering up plenty of hard-edged presets to match. The OG MS-20 was known for its ability to sound gritty, thanks to weighty, drivable oscillators and raspy resonant filters. And that’s before we even get to unofficial versions… Since then Korg has released multiple hardware iterations, including desktop and full-sized reissues, all of which come on top of Korg’s own software MS-20, which has been on the market since the early ’00s. Korg’s own hardware reissue, the MS-20 mini, was one of the first significant synths of the affordable analogue revival. ![]() The first is a synth that we’re surprised it’s taken Arturia this long to attempt: the Korg MS-20, hardly obscure. ![]() V Collection 9 introduces two new emulated instruments to the package. His 1928 painting “The Castle and the Sun” is the inspiration for this project. Klee often used colorful geometric shapes in making playful, fantastic and childlike abstract paintings. He used many methods and techniques in making his art, combining different materials to make one piece. Paul Klee (1879-1940), was a Swiss born, German artist who explored ideas in color and design. Variation (Variety): using a range of different qualities or instances of an art element to create interest. This lesson uses variations in color and shapes which can add to a more interesting composition. Rhythm can create a sense of movement and establish pattern and texture. In this lesson we will use the different heights of the castle towers as well as the alternating shapes and color to establish rhythm. Rhythm: visual movement created by repeating elements of art in a non-uniform but organized way. Repetition: One object, shape, or line repeated. Pattern: a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement. We will be building the colorful castle towers which will make up positive space while paying close attention leaving enough negative space for the sky (background). Space: the area within, around, above, or below an object. In this lesson, we will be using triangles to make squares and rectangles and using a circle for the moon. Shape: a two-dimensional closed line, it can be geometric or organic. Value (the lightness or darkness of a color). Below, you’ll find a comprehensive listing of Jay-Z’s songs with some parameters for manageability: no freestyles over someone else’s beats (sorry “ Young, Gifted and Black”), no song in which Jay-Z is not the lead artist (unless it appears on a DJ compilation). So what’s next for Jay-Z, who this week turned 50 and re-gifted Spotify with his full discography to celebrate? It’s never been harder to predict where he’s headed musically - which is why it’s the perfect time to look back on his entire body of work. Everything Is Lov e, his 2018 collaborative album with Beyoncé (billed as The Carters), builds on that graceful maturation, doubly celebrating their romance and riches. 4:44 is the late-career big-budget home run that Hov needed. The expensive, No I.D.–chopped samples - Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Sister Nancy, the Fugees - are significant in their own right, creating a mature and well-worn ambiance unlike anything else streaming on Spotify’s RapCaviar playlist. It’s a human album that builds on familiar topics like black nationalism, infidelity, and money phones, but here, he handles these topics with more maturity and sophistication than ever before. The confessional 4:44, released in 2017, seemed to be the start of a new phase in the rapper’s career. These albums range from lyrically and musically progressive, to painfully awkward and unfocused. Kelly, Kanye West, or Linkin Park, or a calculated buy-in - Kingdom Come and Budweiser, American Gangster and the film American Gangster, Magna Carta … Holy Grail and Samsung. ![]() Every release from this period of his career had a strategic selling point, whether it was a marquee collaborator like R. From 2004 on, he seemed hell-bent on proving that he still had what it took to keep the No. īut Jay never really committed to his retirement. He released his career-defining LP The Blueprint in 2001 and released the excellent retirement fake-out The Black Album just two years later. With the help of brilliant music minds like Kanye West, Just Blaze, and the Neptunes, Jay dictated the course of hip-hop and emerged as a keen songwriter who knew exactly how to maximize the strengths of his collaborators. He released at least one project annually, while nurturing promising new talent like Philadelphia-based rappers Freeway and Beanie Sigel. He followed that with the inconsistent, overly polished In My Lifetime, Vol. ![]() He’d adopt a slower, more conversational pace for his 1996 masterpiece debut LP, Reasonable Doubt, a project that was self-released after his undeniable talent was denied by every major label he approached. Jay moved in and out of rapper circles in the late ’80s and early ’90s, popping up on songs with his mentor, Jaz-O, and Big Daddy Kane. But he continued to develop his craft, taking stock of hip-hop’s evolving aesthetics and mastering hyperspeed raps in the vein of East Coast rap duo Das EFX. But as an adolescent, he put his hobby on the backburner and crack sales on the front. He’d spend his time banging on the kitchen table at his 534 Flushing Avenue apartment, rhyming to the percussion he created. Jay-Z’s adolescence coincided with the Reagan ’80s. His merging of thinking-man street raps with commercial hits paved the way for artists like Kendrick Lamar and J. His catalogue contains some of the most potent imagery and lucid storytelling about poverty and the desperation that it breeds, all while dominating mainstream pop music, in a delicate tightrope act that almost no one else has ever been able to manage for the span of time that Jay has. And now, two decades (and two dozen solo LPs) later, Jay-Z has become one of music’s all-time most important voices. Def Jam, impressed with Roc-A-Fella’s early independent success, agreed to sign a joint venture with the young imprint on one condition: They needed seven albums from Jay. The skinny kid from Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects intended to drop just one album - a musical I was here statement - before partnering with a major label and falling back into a comfy executive role, becoming a vessel to launch hopeful Roc-A-Fella acts like Memphis Bleek and Christión into orbit.īut the industry had different plans. To what extent do you cooperate with Dixi Polytool in Switzerland? At first I was a little unsure whether I was up to the responsibility, but my doubts were cleared up, especially by my Swiss supervisor. When the managing director at the time suddenly passed away, I was asked if I would like to take over the management of the branch. Later, a new sales representative was needed for my area and I was offered the position of technical manager here in Birkenfeld. I then often came to Birkenfeld to optimize production processes and to make workflows more efficient. 16 years ago, I was offered a field service position in the Black Forest region, which I gladly accepted due to the proximity to my home. ![]() Wolfgang Würtz: For a long time, I was a production foreman at a medium-sized company whose focus was on springs and stamped parts. Würtz, how did you come to be Managing Director of Dixi Polytool here in Germany? In addition to branches in the Netherlands, France and Germany, a new branch in Austria has now been established since 2019. One focus of the Swiss holding group of companies, which is still family-owned, is to constantly drive internationalization. Meanwhile, Dixi Polytool still produces for the watch and jewelry industry, but has long since made a name for itself as an excellent supplier of precision tools made of solid carbide, PCD and diamond, and additionally serves the microtechnology, medical technology, automotive and aerospace sectors. Due to its geographical location, Dixi Polytool also grew up with the local watchmaking industry. Thus, over many years, a strongly developing watchmaking art emerged, especially around Geneva, the city after the French border in the south of Switzerland. These brought with them not only a great deal of expertise in wearable watches, but also the skills of goldsmithing and silversmithing. At that time, around 20,000 Huguenots fled from France to the Swiss Confederation. The origins of today's watchmaking in Switzerland date back to the 17th century. Especially when it comes to luxury watches, Switzerland is at the top of the list, with numerous manufacturers. When one thinks of Switzerland, Swiss cheese, high mountains and, inevitably, Swiss watches come to mind. |
